Born to Fidget? 21 Things to do when you're bored

Nokia recently had an ad campaign that said "Born to Fidget?" and featured a guy playing with the Nokia 6500 slider phone while he was bored. Here are some things you can do while waiting for a friend other than slide your E65 open and closed. For the sake of ease, if you are not sure how to do any of these, use the search bar on the right to find how these can be done on your phone. These are all possible on your Nokia E65.

1. Search for a free WIFI hotspot nearby on your phone and try to connect
2. Change your phone theme
3. Add entries to your calendar for events and reminders
4. Write yourself notes about things you would like to do later
5. Read the Bible on your phone
6. Use Google Maps
7. Check your email
8. Play a game
9. Read a book on your phone (copy full text books to your NOTES)
10. Watch a movie or TV show on your phone
11. Delete programs you don't use or clear out your SMS, MMS

13. Set up remote locking
14. Find out how many hours you have talked on the phone since you got it
15. Update your group distribution lists

I'm sure there are other things you also like doing but are pointless when you are bored, like trying to balance the phone to sit upright, swiveling the phone around, choosing a new ringtone or alarm tone... whether its useless or useful, add a comment about what you do with your phone when you're bored.

6 Tips to Dry a Wet Mobile Phone

You've dropped your phone in a cup of water and while thinking, what are the chances of that happening, you now want to know whether there is any way to turn back time, when your phone was dry and happily serving you. Well, surprisingly, your phone can survive a baptism. Here are just some good ideas you can use to give your phone a fighting chance.

1. Water + Power don't mix If your mobile phone is connected to a charger, DON'T try disconnect the power! Maybe its worth trying to cut the mains power to your house first! If it is not plugged into any external power source, you should remove the battery ASAP. This is because the water conducts electricity and may short circuit your phone.

2. Remove your SIM Card Get it out of the phone. Seems obvious, but when your $500 phone has just been dunked or sprinkled, you don't think straight.

3. Get out in the sunshine Now you should aim at getting your phone as dry as possible. After you have used tissues, shaking or whatever to dry it, its best to leave it out in the sun (preferably where it wont be stolen) to dry. Be careful not to use anything that would make matters worse like blow dryers which could drive water deeper into the phone or any electronic equipment which may create static electricity.

4. Let something else have the water There are certain things like rice which likes to absorb moisture from its surroundings. It may help to leave the mobile in a sack of rice for a while, just remember that its in there or else things might get worse for your mobile.

5. Don't Rush You have to approach this operation with patience. If you try quick methods of trying to fix your phone like an industrial strength heater or something, your phone will age quickly too and it may well end up more of a brick than if you didn't intervene. if in doubt, just let it dry on its own.

6. Testing Once the phone turns on, you might smile to yourself and think the job's done, but you will need to test it extensively. If there are any problems, you may need to go back to the drying and waiting stage.

emTube: Another Nokia E65 youtube app

After having problems with the official YouTube player, I decided to use this program emTube. This time, I was able to watch the videos on my E65 without any problems, not just the menu screen which was all I could get out of the YouTube application. So for those who are struggling to get YouTube working on your E65, try EmTube.

My Nokia E65: 10 Things I... Dislike About You

Sure, the Nokia E65 is the best phone around* but there are other some things that I don't like about the phone. I'll try name ten.

1. Battery life - As I post this, my phone is occasionally letting out the sad tone that indicates the battery is about to die. But hey, if you want to save battery, get a phone that can't do much! The battery life problem is because the Nokia E65 is so useful!
2. The keypad - its quite hard to SMS without looking.
3. Camera - I am not sure whether the camera deteriorates or not but I hardly use it anymore because the photos don't come out too well.
4. No Stopwatch/timer - I'm not sure what their problem was, but why couldn't Nokia just add the stopwatch/timer feature to the E65? It's not like it would take up too much space!
5. Speed - Or lack thereof. I am not sure why but the E65 is a little laggy. It was something I knew about before I bought it but decided that it would be bearable.. and it has been. Just think of it as training up your patience..
6. Conference shortcut key - what a waste! I've never used this shortcut and I wish I could have customised it to do something else. In the future, Nokia, if you want to add a shortcut key, make sure we can change what you thought was worthy of the shortcut.
7. Two Internet Browsers - I am not sure how this works but sometimes when I open up a weblink, say from an SMS, an internet browser called Service pops up with different bookmarks to that of my usual web browser. Why couldn't they just use the one browser? Perhaps it is the same, but then why are my usual bookmarks not available in one, but only in the other?
8. Viewing videos - Sometimes if I play an MP4 on my phone, it will show the video but not the sound. Other times, it plays the sound but no video shows up. I am sure there are some ways of formatting the videos to work on the phone but I haven't figured it out yet.. maybe you can help?
9. No snooze adjustment - What if I don't think 6 minutes is an appropriate snooze length? What if 6 minutes puts me into deep sleep so I can't hear the alarm, or it is too short for me to get much out of my snooze? OK I admit this is not that important but, perhaps I'm running out of faults to find in the E65?
10. Your contributions... what don't you like about the Nokia E65? Remember the price you bought it at, so don't say things like it doesnt have a GPS or a touch screen or its not an iphone..
